Luxury Hotel Chain to Manage $100 Million Lyndoch Resort – News

Exciting Plans for the InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa

IHG Hotels and Resorts is set to forward the hospitality scene in South Australia with the proposed InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa, strategically located near Lyndoch in the picturesque Barossa Valley. Targeted for completion in 2028, this luxurious establishment represents a significant investment and is anticipated to cost around $100 million, pending the necessary planning approvals.

Key Features of the Resort

The InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa will house a total of 150 opulent rooms, each designed to offer breathtaking views of the renowned wine region that Barossa is famous for. In addition to providing comfortable accommodations, the resort will feature a premium restaurant, multiple function facilities, a wellness spa, a swimming pool, and a fully equipped gym. This multifaceted approach not only invites guests looking for relaxation and indulgence but also caters to those planning events or corporate retreats.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The development is expected to have a significant economic impact on the Barossa region. The Strategic Alliance consortium, which spearheads the project, estimates that over 350 jobs will be created during the construction phase alone, with an additional 120 ongoing positions available once the resort is operational. Collectively, these roles will contribute to the local economy, generating an estimated $70 to $100 million in economic benefits for the Barossa Valley.

Support from Local Leaders

Local government officials have expressed their enthusiasm for this development. Premier Peter Malinauskas emphasized the significance of the InterContinental brand’s involvement, noting that it would immediately place the Barossa on a global hospitality map. He commented, “It is great to see the InterContinental brand being associated with this proposed development, which means that if approved, it immediately becomes part of a global network with an enormous customer base.”

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need for more luxury accommodations in the Barossa to attract interstate and international visitors. With over 768,000 visitor nights recorded in the past year, this new resort could greatly enhance the region’s tourism offerings.

Development Insights

A development application for the InterContinental Barossa Resort was submitted in mid-2024, and the location is on Hoffnungsthal Road, conveniently situated halfway between Williamstown and Lyndoch. The site is not only near the charming Lyndoch Lavender Farm but also close to popular attractions such as Barossa Helicopters and the Barossa Rodeo, making it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.

IHG’s Commitment to Expansion

Matthew Tripolone, the Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts Australasia & Pacific, shared his excitement about partnering with Strategic Alliance to bring one of the world’s most recognized hotel brands to the Barossa Valley. He indicated, “We have been looking to expand our presence in South Australia, and we know there’s strong demand for an international luxury hotel in the Barossa region.”

Strategic Alliance’s Vision

David Cook, a director of Strategic Alliance, also expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration with IHG. He stated, “We are very pleased to be partnering with the iconic InterContinental brand and thank them for their shared vision in our Barossa project.” His commitment to working closely with IHG underscores a shared goal of unlocking opportunities that this exciting project holds for the region.

Complementing Existing Developments

The InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa joins a growing list of luxury accommodations in the area, which includes the Oscar Hotel by Seppeltsfield. This $80 million project received planning approval in 2022 and has already been bolstered by a $3.5 million loan from the South Australian government’s Economic Recovery Fund. Once completed, the Oscar Hotel will offer 71 upscale rooms, fine dining options, a lounge area, and a rooftop pool, complementing the offerings planned for the InterContinental.

As plans continue to unfold for the InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa, this venture promises to redefine luxury accommodation in the Barossa Valley, enhancing the region’s reputation as a premier travel destination.
