Travelers in Delaware are in for a treat with an exciting new option for getting to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Wilmington Airport is teaming up with American Airlines to introduce motor-coach bus service, offering passengers a more affordable parking solution and potentially shorter security wait times as they catch their flights. This initiative promises to streamline travel between Wilmington and Philadelphia, making the journey smoother and more efficient.
The new program, operated by Landline, allows passengers to park conveniently at the Wilmington Airport, which is located just south of the city. From there, travelers can navigate through TSA security at the smaller Wilmington Airport, check their luggage, and board a motor coach for a ride to Philadelphia. This setup not only simplifies travel but also helps passengers avoid the long security lines often found at larger airports.
Wilmington Airport is not new to such initiatives; it will be the fourth location to participate in this bus program. Current services already extend from Atlantic City, Allentown, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, making it an appealing option for many travelers throughout the region.
“We’re going to provide a service that will allow for customers to come to the airport here in Wilmington, park very cheap, be able to go through TSA very efficiently, then get on a motor coach,” said Tom Cook, executive director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority, the organization overseeing Wilmington Airport’s operations. This streamlined process makes it easy for travelers to catch flights to a variety of destinations serviced by American Airlines, including international locations.
Both Wilmington Airport and American Airlines anticipate a significant increase in the use of the motor-coach service. In response to this expected demand, the airport is actively working to expand its parking capacity for both its flyers and those taking advantage of the Landline bus service to Philly. With plans to accommodate close to 1,500 vehicles, travelers can expect a hassle-free parking experience even as the number of passengers grows.
“Landline has the ability to monitor the activity, and I’m sure if the demand is there, they will put the resources behind it to expand,” Cook noted. This proactive approach reflects the airport’s commitment to enhancing passenger satisfaction and convenience.
Nick Johnson, vice president of revenue for Landline, provided insights into the efficiency of the new service. He highlighted that Philadelphia International Airport hosts six major departure waves, typically seeing numerous flights leave within a 40-minute timeframe. To accommodate this, the motor-coach buses are scheduled perfectly to connect with these flight schedules, allowing passengers ample time for last-minute needs like restroom breaks or grabbing a coffee.
This innovative travel option connects Delaware residents and visitors to one of the busiest airports in the region, allowing for a seamless transition from ground to air travel. As the service expands, it’s likely to attract a wide range of passengers, further enhancing the connectivity of the Wilmington area and its proximity to Philadelphia’s expansive flight network.
