Marriott International Launches Outdoor Lodging and Adventure Booking Platform: Travel Weekly

Marriott International Launches Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott International recently unveiled its exciting new venture, the Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy, following strategic investments in outdoor accommodations. This launch comes on the heels of Marriott’s acquisition of Postcard Cabins and its partnership with Trailborn Hotels, positioning the company to capitalize on the burgeoning outdoor hospitality market.

Expanding the Portfolio: Over 1,200 Postcard Cabins

The Outdoor Collection debuts with an impressive array of over 1,200 Postcard Cabins spread across 29 locations in the United States. Each cabin is thoughtfully designed to create a harmonious blend of outdoor adventure and modern comforts. Additionally, the collection includes several Trailborn properties situated in breathtaking locations such as the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Grand Canyon, and Wrightsville Beach, N.C. These accommodations promise not just a place to stay, but an immersive experience in nature, inviting guests to enjoy the great outdoors without sacrificing essential modern amenities.

Outdoor-Focused Stays with Modern Comforts

Marriott’s Outdoor Collection aims to set a new standard for outdoor hospitality. Properties in this collection emphasize a design-forward approach while ensuring the presence of standard hotel amenities. Guests can indulge in comforts like hot running water and dedicated restrooms, creating a unique fusion of rustic charm and contemporary convenience. This innovative approach caters to both adventure-seekers and those looking for a peaceful escape in nature, making it an attractive option for a variety of travelers.

The Launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors

To complement the Outdoor Collection, Marriott has rolled out Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, a robust digital platform specifically designed to help travelers explore and book stays geared towards outdoor activities. Whether you’re interested in skiing, hiking, surfing, or paddling, the platform enables seamless search and booking. It features more than 450 Marriott hotels and 50,000 Homes & Villas properties, along with a curated selection of tours and activities that connect travelers to their favorite outdoor passions.

Prominent properties listed on the Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors platform include the W Verbier in Switzerland, the Moxy Banff in Canada, and the Grand Bohemian Lodge Asheville, part of the Autograph Collection in North Carolina. This extensive range not only enhances the travel experience but also highlights Marriott’s commitment to catering to adventure enthusiasts.

The Drop Pin Challenge: Engaging Outdoor Explorers

To celebrate the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, Marriott has partnered with TV personality and outdoorsman Dylan Efron to introduce a fun and engaging initiative called the Drop Pin Challenge. This interactive treasure hunt features physical pins strategically placed in 20 outdoor destinations across the U.S. and Canada, including iconic spots like Yellowstone, the Catskills, Maui, Banff, and Whistler.

Participants can visit the Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors website to obtain clues and coordinates for each location. The challenge invites adventurers to discover and scan these pins, with the first 50 participants earning 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy points each; a total of 10 million points are up for grabs. This initiative not only drives engagement but also encourages outdoor exploration among Marriott’s guests.

The Growing Trend of Outdoor Hospitality

The launch of Marriott’s Outdoor Collection and Bonvoy Outdoors platform signifies a significant trend within the travel industry—an increasing investment in outdoor hospitality. Competitors are similarly entering this space. For instance, Hyatt Hotels Corp. has joined forces with the glamping brand Under Canvas, while Hilton is collaborating with AutoCamp to make unique Airstream suites and luxury tents available for booking.

Moreover, new entrants like Outbound Hotels, Loge Camps, and Field & Stream Lodge Co. are reshaping the landscape of outdoor accommodations. This surge in investment and innovation highlights the industry’s recognition of the demand for unique and immersive outdoor experiences.

Through these initiatives, Marriott is not only meeting the growing interest in outdoor adventures but also establishing itself as a pioneer in a rapidly evolving market, setting the stage for the future of outdoor hospitality.
