Spike in Flight Searches to the Balearic Islands

Despite the prevailing uncertainties and concerns stemming from ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Britons are undeterred in their holiday planning. As Easter approaches, many families remain committed to their travel plans, with **Mallorca** emerging as Europe’s leading destination for family holidays, according to a new index from **easyJet** and **easyJet Holidays**. This ranking reflects a comprehensive analysis of factors that simplify travel with children, making a getaway that much more appealing.

The **Family Holiday Index** evaluates several crucial aspects, such as flight durations under four hours, accessibility to beaches and pools, and the availability of family-friendly attractions like waterparks and mini golf. It also considers logistical elements such as everyday holiday costs and the ease of navigating airports. This methodology helps parents find destinations that genuinely cater to their family needs.

In second place, the **Algarve** in Portugal takes a solid spot, followed by the **Costa del Sol** in third. These locations are well-loved for their sun-soaked coasts and ample activities for families. Other Mediterranean islands with inviting beaches and laid-back resort lifestyles also rank favorably. **Sardinia**, ranked sixth, is particularly noted for its serene, crystal-clear waters, offering a safe environment for young swimmers. Additionally, **Crete** comes in at seventh, celebrated for its expansive coastline and a plethora of family attractions that ensure an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages.

Spanish destinations like **Costa Blanca**, **Ibiza**, and coastal resorts in **Barcelona** further illustrate Spain’s dominance in attracting UK family holidaymakers. Recent findings from **easyJet** indicate a significant trend: over half (52%) of Britons plan on exploring a new country this year. Furthermore, 52% of travelers anticipate going on two or more holidays, with a fortunate 6% hoping for more than five trips. Interestingly, future holidays are increasingly seen not just as breaks but as opportunities for engagement, with people choosing destinations that align with their hobbies and interests—from sports to spirituality.

However, the Middle East conflict has undeniably influenced travel preferences. While Mallorca continues to gain traction on social media, **Ibiza** is also experiencing a surge in interest. Searches for flights to Ibiza saw a notable increase of 4% since the conflict escalated, highlighting a shift in traveler attention. The **Tourism Intelligence System (SIT)** has been closely monitoring this trend, revealing a jump in searches for airlines to Ibiza from 4,106,886 in 2025 to 4,602,334 in 2026—an increase of 10.77% overall. Notably, the uptick in interest correlates with the start of the conflict.

If we look deeper, the SIT found that specific nationalities are particularly keen on visiting Ibiza. Americans, for instance, have ramped up their searches by 31.21%, rising from 167,666 to 243,746. Following them are the Belgians, Dutch, and Italians, each showing significant increases in interest. In contrast, Swiss, French, and Irish searches have diminished slightly since late February, indicating a more complex landscape of travel behavior influenced by current events.

As for pricing, the situation remains stable, with no immediate increases in ticket prices or accommodation costs observed. The SIT affirms that Ibiza continues to retain its status as a highly sought-after destination, evidenced by search volumes this year remaining above 2025 levels. Despite the external challenges, the demand for this sun-soaked island appears robust, signaling an enduring desire among travelers for enjoyable, family-friendly escapes.
